Why this exists
Every other directory catalogs what already exists. When you search for something and find nothing, that moment simply disappears.
It shouldn't. A search that comes back empty is the clearest signal there is that a neighborhood wants something it doesn't have. The Village Map keeps those moments — anonymously, by ZIP area — so that unmet demand becomes evidence an entrepreneur or a lender can actually act on.
How it works
-
Search for what you need
Find Black-owned businesses near you, on a list or on the map.
-
Empty results still count
If nothing comes up, we record the search by ZIP area — never who you are, never your exact location — and tell you how many neighbors have looked for the same thing.
-
Demand becomes proof
Those searches add up into something a business owner can point at. And when a matching business does open, anyone who asked to be told gets told.
Your privacy
We never record who searched for what. There are no accounts and no passwords. Demand is stored by ZIP area only. Your email is linked to a search in just one case — when you choose to be notified. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
